General Aftercare
A tattoo is, first of all, a wound. It must be treated as such and follow its healing process, avoiding the introduction of dirt (bacteria).
The first phase, i.e., the first 3 days, is crucial to ensure that the tattoo (the wound) closes up properly without contamination.
The cream should only be used in the following days, once the skin starts its regeneration cycle, which will last about a month. It will only serve to soften dry skin or scabs.
Note: The cream must be new because if previously used, it may contain bacteria (it’s better to buy small tubes as needed).
For any doubts, don’t hesitate to contact the studio or your tattoo artist directly.
You can find the appropriate cream for the care of your new tattoo at the studio.
- Keep the tattoo covered with the cloth until the next morning.
- Gently remove the cloth, helping it loosen with warm water. With thoroughly clean hands, wash the tattoo well with a mild, preferably antibacterial soap, until all ink and blood residues are gone.
- Dry the tattoo by gently patting it with paper towels.
- Do not cover the tattoo. Apply the spare cloth only if some areas become moist again after drying, or if you are exposed to a dusty environment.
- Continue to wash the tattoo morning and afternoon for the next 3 days.
- Only after the third day, apply a thin layer of tattoo cream (such as Almond Oil or Shea Butter).
- Once the tattoo has fully peeled, continue to moisturize it to keep the skin soft and less sensitive.
Healing Time
- Typically, the tattoo should heal within a couple of weeks.
- During this time, you may experience discomfort and itching. Do not scratch or constantly touch the tattoo, as it could cause an infection or improper healing, which may affect the final result.
Washing Tips
- Wash the tattoo directly in the shower with warm water and neutral or antibacterial soap.
- Pat dry gently, do not rub.
- Try to avoid wetting the tattoo outside of wash times. Avoid prolonged soaking in bathtubs, pools, sea, saunas, etc., until the tattoo is fully healed.
- Avoid intense workouts. Excessive sweating doesn’t help healing, especially in the first few days.
- Do not expose the tattoo to sunlight for the first two weeks. Only after that, you can apply SPF 50+ sunscreen.
Touch-Ups
- Wait for the tattoo to be completely healed before evaluating whether any areas need touching up.
- Once fully healed, feel free to contact me for a check-up and to schedule a touch-up if necessary.
Thank you!
